Bottom part of a flat rectangular case, lined with wood and covered with very dark buffalo horn. This is overlaid with pierced ivory decorative panels of an intricate foliate pattern, with occasional smooth circular domes of ivory. At the centre on one side is a plaque of ivory, showing an engraving of a winged being. .At the centre of the other side is a plaque, which is blank except for a border of an engraved pattern of a twisted line. At the edge of the case is a fine line of ivory, overlapped by a series of right-angled ivory brackets with small domed decorations, which are at regular intervals around the edges.
