armlet (arm ornament)

Basketry armlet, made of fine twill strips of cane, dyed red on one side, and woven with yellow orchid stem strips to form large zig-zag pattern, with four small circles and a vertical line in centre and a vertical line topped by horizontal lines on each side. A band of arrow stripes in yellow below. Slit up the back three-quarters of the length, the edges bound over and reinforced with cane strips. Length of twisted thread pierced through each side of the slit. The open slit, narrow end of armlet reinforced with row of woven cane.
