dish (food service); winnowing tray

A flat platter of thinly carved wood which retains the shallow roves of its adzing inside and out. The platter is U-shaped in the transverse cross- section, but flat longitudinally. There is a piece of cord which runs lengthways across the platter, and is threaded through a hole at one end. The opposite end has the cord affixed to a piece of twisted metal with a loop. The tray has a reddish pigment.
