Dome-shaped lid of a carved ivory basket, constructed of six segments from strips of ivory decorated with openwork diamond pattern, the spaces in between filled by thin sheets of ivory. Each sheet has a finely pierced background of interlocking swastika design, against which an ovoid medallion is carved with flowers in relief. Two medallions are carved with a female name 'Matilda'. The lid is surmounted with a carved pomegranate knob on a flattened top, which is embellished with openwork scrolling flowers.
