Paper banknote. Documentation with object states that "Assignat for 50 sols" - Assignats were promissory notes of the French revolutionary government circulating as currency, 1789-1796, secured by the confiscated church lands, the national domain, and the estates of the emigres. A SOL equals one SOU equals on HALFPENNY.
