Canton enamel oil lamp in the form of a Chinese rectangular bird cage. Constructed of brass wire mesh, resting on a square platform supported with four splayed and pointed feet, a chain hook attached oat the top for hanging. The lamp has a brass font enclosed by a squared, perforated brass band decorated with characters of either double happiness, shuang xi, or longevity, shou, in the middle. These are surrounded by a swastika pattern, with a clear glass shade resting above. The platform has multicoloured enamel painted on a copper base, decorated with flowers and scrolling foliage against a pink or a yellow ground.
