Nobleman on horse

Painting on parchment depicting a rural mountainous scene with five figures. The central figure is riding a light brown horse with a green saddlecloth and distinctive Ethiopian toe stirrup. The rider wears a white 'shamma' with black patterned border, 'tibeb', and a black 'kabba'. He carries a fly whisk, 'yahanib tchar', and parasol, 'djantala', that signify his high status. Behind him walk two retainers in white cotton tunics and trousers carrying spears and multicoloured shields. One carries a curved sword, 'shotel', with an inscription. In front is another retainer with a spear and a woman in a white cotton 'kamis' carrying a red container, possibly for water.
