Sandal, waraji, with a sole made of four bands of woven rice straw in gourd (hyoutan) shape. The longitudinal cords of rice straw over which the sole is woven emerge at back and front to form two twisted cords. The two from the front run along the sandal, one at each side, carried through two loops (chi) on each side and hang loose for tying. The two thicker cords, coming from the heel, are wrapped around the two hindmost side loops.
