Pair of sandals (zouri) for a woman, with rubber sole covered in red cloth and a narrow strip of pink cloth in the base. Extra layers raise the sandal towards heel end. The thong (hanao) is made of two bands, one of red and one of white cloth, twisted around each other, with a narrower band of red cloth around this and passing between the toes and through the sole. Red and white are 'happy' colours in Japan. There is a maker's label (Fujii-Daimaru) on the underside, and a moulded image of peony flowers and two butterflies on the base of the heel.
