Tapered cylindrical fan case with arched top, made of yellow damask with stiffened red paper interface, edged with black binding The base and lining are of blue cotton. It opens at the top with a green silk cord loop handle and two pink glass ovoid beads. The exterior is embroidered with multicoloured silk thread in chain stitches, on one side with a stylised ruyi sceptre head flanked by two scrolling branches on the top, an artemisia leaf, a fan and a gourd in the middle, and a flowering plant at the bottom. The other side has the same embroidered stylised ruyi sceptre head with scrolling foliage, with Chinese script below, inscribed by the fan owner in winter of the Dinghai year, probably 1887.
