arch model

Model based on parts of the Alhambra palace, in a wood and glass frame. The inscription on the back reads in translation: 'From a window of the mosque courtyard in the Alhambra. Scale 1:4. Made of the same materials used by the Arabs. The shape of the arch is so unique that no other examples can be found in Arabic architecture'. The inscription on the front reads: Only God wins / Perpetual Prosperity / I find refuge in God, escaping Satan scared to death in the name of the Lord clement and merciful'.

This may have been purchased at the Alhambra Palace in 1884, when Frederick John Horniman signed the visitors' book there.
