textile; sample (textileworking: barkcloth making)

Almost square sample of barkcloth with painted decoration and fringing on 3 sides only. The black and red painted decoration of the textile consists of a centre panel and 3 borders. The panel is subdivided into 3 stripes, containing floral and star motifs or square and diamond shapes subdivided into triangles. These are differently patterned and/or coloured. Some of the stripes are framed. The first of the borders consist of short, framed diagonal lines. Then follows a border consisting of diamonds divided into 2 differently coloured and patterned triangles. The third border contains a framed narrow checked stripe/band. On 2 sides is a fringe of thin strips, decorated with black dots. On the third is a cut-out dentate-patterned fringe.
