textile fragment; textile

Textile fragment in the form of a multicoloured, tapestry-woven linen and wool(?) roundel. The centre contains what appears to be the bust of a saint against a red ground. This is surrounded by 3 rings. The inner one contains repeat multicoloured shapes. The widest, middle one is divided into quarters by repeat curvilinear motifs. The cream ground is filled with smaller curvilinear patterns. The outer ring is apparently quartered by yellow, and red circular motifs. The brown ground is filled with repeat foliate motifs. The motif appears to have been worked into a cream tabby-woven ground.
