Paper Easter chandelier, 'straw spider'. Festival decoration made of straw and pieces of coloured paper (now faded). Construction based on two wheels, with each wheel divided into four parts. The larger wheel is situated in the lower section of the decoration with paper attachments loosely hanging down. Straw and paper pieces attached to the laces and metal hoop of the wheel. Decorations of this type, commonly known as ‘spiders’, were made during the Easter and Christmas periods and suspended under the ceiling beam. When spun by the wind, the decorations were a great attraction for children.
