A.R Radcliffe-Brown
Radcliffe-Brown (1881-1955) was a social anthropologist. He studied at Trinity College, Oxford, and undertook fieldwork in the Andaman Islands (1906-1908) and various parts of Australia in the early 20th century. He held professorships and chairs at many universities worldwide, including the University of Chicago, University of Sydney, and University of Cape Town. He also acted as a director of education in the kingdom of Tonga between 1918 and 1919. He was a pioneer of social anthropology, and one of the first British anthropologists to undertake fieldwork on his own.
