Barrel drum, geduk ibu, with two beaters.

The geduk ibu barrel drum forms part of the percussion accompaniment for the Malaysian shadow puppet theatre of wayang kulit kelantan. The drummer is seated on the ground to play the instrument. Performances of the shadow puppet theatre of North-eastern Malaysia, wayang kulit Kelantan, are accompanied by an orchestra made up of oboes (serunai), gongs, and three pairs of drums, each consisting of a ‘mother’ (ibu) and ‘child’ (anak) drum. The geduk ibu and anak barrel drums provide a lively accompaniment to scenes of strife.
