Square concertina. Unique system. No serial number. No label. Possibly continental, 1840-50. 6.38" diameter square purfled veneered rosewood end plate, with areas of pine-backed ornate fretwork, secured and inset into end frames by four bolts, end frames are rosewood moulding, also purfled. 28 buttons: 14 each side, domed bone, with coil spring beneath, and brass levers. All straps absent, though signs of strap and screw mountings remain. Five-fold square bellows with flowered silver papers. Carved and moulded bellows frames. Reeds are in two rows of double-sided block, with two reeds per block. Riveted brass tongues, screwed on underside of action.
