Carved, lidded ivory basket of ovoid shape in section, with curved sides tapering towards the six-footed base. The frame of the lidded basket is constructed of six segments from strips of ivory decorated with an openwork diamond pattern, the spaces in between filled with thin sheets of ivory. Each sheet has a finely pierced background of interlocking swastika design, against which an ovoid medallion is carved with either flowers or landscape with pagoda in relief. The dome-shaped lid has two medallions carved with a female name 'Matilda', and surmounted with a carved pomegranate knob on flattened top, which is embellished with an openwork scrolling flowers. An overhead loop handle is attached to the mouth of the basket, carved with ribbed pattern resembling bamboo. The legs are incised with simple linear details, and running along between the feet is carved foliate scroll.
