saddle (horse furniture)

Pair of leather saddle flaps, joined. Made of leather and joined by rope which passes through two apertures in each piece. The lower flap is black in the upper part and white below, with two tachibana mon and a gilded horizontal strap through which a strap would pass, all with a gold border around the edge. The reverse is covered in cloth. The upper flap is of white leather with three tachibana crests (mon) in black and an aperture for a strap to go through. Gold border. Reverse blackened leather. A black lacquered wooden bar along the lower edge. Two flaps together as worn on horse:350h x 420w.
