barkcloth; textile; tapa

Rectangular barkcloth with painted glossy decoration in black and brown. The textile is made from smaller sections which overlap. The design consists of 8 narrow bands/stripes and 7 wider bands/stripes. The narrow stripes contain a dentate pattern framed by solidly coloured lines. Every other one of these is slightly darker in colouring which pairs up 6 of the wider stripes/bands. Each of the wider bands/stripes is divided into square fields by narrow solid brown bands/stripes. These squares contain either leaf /frond motifs, or are subdivided into black and brown triangles.
