Concertina. Anglo-German system. No serial number. Oval embossed brass plaque, mounted on right-hand end under the vaulted mahogany hand bar: 'The Traveller's Melodeon, patent 1877.' Stamped on right-hand end: 'Registered No. 2865.' 5.56" diameter flat mahogany ends, central, floral fretwork. The mahogany sides, with a band of purfling, project over the bellows and conceal them when the instrument is closed. 21 keys: 10 each side + 1 air. Solid bone, glued onto levers. Brown leather straps, one brass pin. Five-fold green leather bellows with gold star papers. The mahogany bellows frames are held closed over the bellows by brass clasps in the shape of dragons. Reeds riveted to single reed plates.
